FLSS students join the 8th Hangeul Day Festival

On October 7th 2017, under the patronage of the Embassy of Korea in Vietnam, the Korea Foundation and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the 8th Hangeul Day to commemorate the invention of Korean alphabet was held in the campus of ULIS, with the presence of 18 universities, colleges, high schools and secondary schools.

Hangeul Day, first held in 2010, is an annual event in Vietnam and has ever since received much love and expectation of the students majoring in the Korean language in Vietnam.

This year the Hangeul Day is one of the commemorative events marking the 25th year of co-operation between Vietnam and Korea. This is an occasion when more than 1,000 students of different schools in the Northern and Central parts of Vietnam with Korean department have a chance to compete and exchange knowledge about the country and its people, culture and language. The festival consists of many special activities such as students’ scholarship award, quizzes and performances, camp decoration, Korean food preparation in the cuisine stalls, and raffle, etc.

The academic year of 2017-2018 is the first time that FLSS has ever recruited Korean majors. Therefore, with the hope of contributing to this important cultural event, the students of Korean class (10V) has actively participated in various activities such as camp decoration and art performance, etc. to learn, exchange and expand their cultural and language knowledge. They joined the competition with the spirit “Ignite to Shine” of FLSS, leaving a favorable impression on the teachers and friends.

Although this is the first time participating in the Hangeul Day Festival, the CNNers has shown their professional competing spirit in the performance. The energetic and charming modern dance of FLSS has surpassed many other performances which were carefully invested in the costumes and properties of the university students and earned the encouraging prize.

Not only could the students succeed in the camp decoration and the performance, V49 students – FLSS also showed their creativity and love towards the country of Kimchi through various activities which includes designing and making mini notebooks, designing badges expressing typical Korean culture to introduce to the students and visitors. These activities have contributed to the excitement and attractiveness of the festival.

Hangeul Day Festival came to an end bringing the happiness to the participants. To FLSS students, this has been such a great opportunity for them to broaden their horizen, exchange language and cultural knowledge of the country that they have chosen. Also, this event has been a chance for us to bridge the cultural gap between FLSS and the beautiful country of Korea, making it become more and more familiar and cozy.
