On the 21st of October 2017 the final round of CNN Golden Bell Challenge 2017 takes place on the school’s campus. The contestants include top 100 students selected from the first and second rounds, who are the representatives of five houses: AMP, BCQ, DEVT, IKN, GHS.

As a part of University of Languages and International Studies, Foreign Language Specialized School (FLSS) is a national gifted school in Hanoi with substantial contributions to the field of foreign languages studies for nearly 50 years. The school always provides a myriad of opportunities for students to learn, to explore their boundaries and expand their horizons by holding various competitions for them. After the success of CNN English Speaking Contest, the school continues to organize the CNN Golden Bell Challenge 2017 to ignite intellectual curiosity and desire for learning English in students. After the knockout competition, 100 excellent contestants from five Houses: AMP, BCQ, DEVT, IKN, GHS were chosen to take part in the final round held on CNN campus on October 21^st 2017.

The contest was attended by Assoc.Prof. Nguyen Thanh Van (FLSS’s Principal), Dr. Lai Thi Phuong Thao (FLSS’s Vice Principal), Dr. Nguyen Phu Chien (FLSS’s Vice Principal), MA. Tran Thi Thu Nga (FLSS’s Vice Principal), and other teaching staff. Ms. Do Thanh Ha – Deputy Director of Summit Education Services is a representative of the competition’s co-organizer. At the opening ceremony of the contest, Ms. Thanh Hà expressed her admiration for the professionalism and creativity in organizing the event of the English teachers as well as the dynamism and intelligence of CNNers.

In order to ring the golden bell, contestants were supposed to answer 20 questions in a variety of fields: natural sciences, social sciences, economics, culture, music and sports. In the first stage, after the seventh question there were no contestants on the stage, therefore the teacher supporters participated in a mini game to rescue the contestants for the next stage. Fortunately, most of all the contestants were given a chance to get back to the stage to continue the competition. In the second round, by question 20, there were still five contestants on the stage. The organizers had to come up with additional questions to find the winner. As one of the last two finalists on the stage, Thai Hai Minh, a student from class I48, excellently answered the question in the field of chemistry and became the winner of the competition. Phạm Hồng Phúc V48 and Vũ Gia Nguyên respectively took the second and third place of the competition.
